Why Are Airlines Retiring Boeing 747s?

Hendrik Tennekes once said, " The Boeing 747 is the commuter train of the global village ." Little did he know that one day, 747 would stop flying at all. It's been more than 40 years. ' King of the skies ' is vanishing continuously today. American carrier Delta discontinues its last 747 in December, 2017 and thus taking the number of 747s in the US to zero. The retirement announcement spurred a wave of nostalgia for a plane that for better or worse forever changed the way people traveled. Today, a handful of operators use this majestic aircraft which includes Lufthansa, Air India, British Airways, etc. Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental Boeing started 747 family back in 1969. It was a huge achievement for Boeing. Competitors were nowhere near to beat it. Aircraft use double-deck configuration and uses four engines.
