Concorde: A Marvel Of Aviation History

Concorde, a supersonic jet aircraft which almost all the aviation enthusiasts crave to travel on was sadly discontinued on 24th October, 2003. It started its commercial journey 21st January, 1976 even though its test flight was conducted on 2nd March, 1969.

Concorde 1/21/1976 - 11/26/2003 Average flight time from NY to London was 3 hours and a half
Air France Concorde taking off

This legendary airliner was able to do 2.04 Mach at FL600. Only 20 such planes were manufactured by British Aircraft Corporation and Sud Aviation. Being expensive, mainly 2 commercial airline companies; British Airways and Air France were operating Concorde.

Many people have only one question to ask: If this plane was able to do London to New York in 3 hours 20 minutes in the 70s where other planes were taking almost double of its flight time, why it was discontinued from the service?

Operating cost. That was the major reason among all. Flight ticket on Concorde was so expensive that people started preferring first class on normal planes. With flight ticket costlier than first class, all you got was a seat like premium economy. Most people have time, but not money. This demon used to consume more fuel on taxiway than your average car would burn in 6 months. Though Concorde was indulged in only one crash, that was not the main reason it was called off. Apart from that, continuous complaints from residents due to the high density of noise coming from aircraft was also a contributing factor at some level.

After 14 years of its discontinuation, aviation nerds all across the world are now waiting to get on board on a supersonic jet airliner. Let's hope Airbus or Boeing whoever it may be, brings us an incredible piece of a bird.

Why Are Airlines Retiring Boeing 747s?

Hendrik Tennekes once said, " The Boeing 747 is the commuter train of the global village ." Little did he know that one day, 747 would stop flying at all. It's been more than 40 years. ' King of the skies ' is vanishing continuously today. American carrier Delta discontinues its last 747 in December, 2017 and thus taking the number of 747s in the US to zero. The retirement announcement spurred a wave of nostalgia for a plane that for better or worse forever changed the way people traveled. Today, a handful of operators use this majestic aircraft which includes Lufthansa, Air India, British Airways, etc. Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental Boeing started 747 family back in 1969. It was a huge achievement for Boeing. Competitors were nowhere near to beat it. Aircraft use double-deck configuration and uses four engines. This is something which had a main role in the decrement of its use. Just like Airbus A380, 747 is also fuel hungry. But unlike A380, it is a bi...
